Brian received his B.S. in Accounting from the University of South Dakota in 1972 and his J.D. from the University of South Dakota School of Law in 1976. He was admitted to the South Dakota bar in 1976 and the Washington bar in 1977, and later to the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington and the U.S. Tax Court, both in 1983.
Brian is also a Certified Public Accountant — licensed in South Dakota from 1976 to 1978 and in Washington from 1978 to the present — a combination that shapes his practice across business law, corporate law, taxation, estate planning, trusts and estates, elder law, probate, real property, forestry, and contracts and leases.
He joined Scheibmeir, Kelly & Nelson as a shareholder in November 2004. Brian is a past president of the Lewis County Bar Association, a Fellow of the American Bar Association, a member of the Washington State and South Dakota bar associations, a member of the Washington Society of CPAs and the American Institute of CPAs since 1978, and past president of the South Puget Sound Estate Planning Council.
His civic involvement includes Chehalis Rotary from 1979 to 2016, including a term as president, along with board service for the Claquato Cemetery Association and Pope John Paul II High School, officiating with the Southwest Washington Football Officials' Association, and support for the Pacific Northwest Chamber Orchestra and various legal-aid and community organizations.
